Decompression Therapy

A Non-Surgical Alternative for Back, Neck and Carpal Tunnel Pain Treatment
Treatment for the Pain of Herniated and Degenerative Discs

Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical treatment to help in the management of serious low back/leg and neck/arm pain. It utilizes a traction system such as the Decompression Therapy System (DTS) to effectively decompress the vertebrae in the spine. DTS treatment is directed at relieving pressure on structures that may be a major source of pain. It can relieve pain associated with bulging or herniated discs, degenerative discs, facet syndrome and sciatica (referred pain) and headaches. DTS helps relieve pain through the decompression of lumbar and cervical discs and joints (that is unloading due to distraction and positioning). This cyclical, painless setting reduces pressure, promotes blood and fluid flow and improves healing naturally. 25 years of research combining efforts of doctors and therapists has lead to the development of this technology. Virtually all patients report DTS treatments are painless and often very relaxing. In fact, unlike other methods, the DTS is designed around patient comfort and allow the patients multiple positioning options with the option of supine or prone positioning.

We offer two types of traction in our office: Manual and Intersegmental.

Manual Traction
Manual Traction is a passive motion therapy that reverses the effects of gravity, reduces spinal distortions, decompresses nerves and discs, improves flexibility and rehabilitates connective tissue (including discs). It is also helpful in lifting internal organs that have sagged due to gravity. This therapy actually provides the benefits of "inversion therapy" without the side effects of turning people upside-down.

Intersegmental Traction
Intersegmental Traction feels like a relaxing massage. It actually helps improve flexibility, expand disc spaces, suction disc material, increase tissue elasticity, facilitate coordination and decrease curvatures and other distortions. This therapy is an integral part of correcting many spinal problems.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical Muscle Stimulation is a special form of electrical current that is administered at the site of soft tissue injury, especially muscles, for the blocking of pain. It is recommended in cases in which pain is accompanied by swelling and inflammation. Small amounts of electrical current are inducted into the tissues for the purpose of reducing swelling. This widely used technique safely strengthens muscles and helps reduce painful symptoms.
